Oni Market #10: Onigokko

A few interesting things, one not being so new but gaining momentum at the moment and the other two related to a recent experience of anyone who was present around 01:30 at the Tanjyoubi no Ichiban Special.

Item #1: J-Rock Revolution’s Anime Corner and Bento BeatBox Contests

Early in March, J-Rock Revolution announced the launch of its Anime Corner and Bento Beatbox Projects, in collaboration with the American Anime Network and UTB. This new section features two contests, one sponsored by Cure USA and another by Anime Network, concerning the first artists to be presented in JRR’s very own TV program! For more juicy information, as well as hints for the contests, click on the banner below.

Item #2: Real Onigokko

Real Onigokko is a 2008 Japanese movie, based on the novel of the same name, by Yusuke Yamada. Tsubasa Sato is transported into a parallel reality, where everyone who shares his family name is hunted down and killed in a deadly and very real game of “tag”. “Onigokko” is the Japanese word used for the popular children’s game, under the premise that the Oni is the one hunting everyone else. Well, in this case, the “Oni” hunt AND kill their victims. The movie is not spectacular but if anything, kind of Battle Royale-ish. However, it features an amazing song by KOTOKO, named after the movie. KOTOKO, among other things, is responsibloe for amazing songs such as “Second Flight”, featured in Onegai Twins, “Being”, in Shakugan no Shana and “Trust You’re Truth” in Triangle Heart. This song is the most haunting of hers I have heard to date and was kindly provided for the party by Tomodachi-chan (first time the song has ever been played in Greece for the public, yaaaay! – whatever that means, I know I liked it).

Below you can watch the movie’s trailer, the actual video clip and finally, an AMV featuring footage from Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. Do not worry: if you have not seen the series, it is unlikely it will spoil it for you, since the images reveal nothing of its complexity. If you HAVE seen the series, you know it’s a fitting match.

In fact, this last one is also fitting because it leads us to…

Item #3: Unmei no Wa

“Unmei no Wa” is Eiko Shimamiya’s song for the the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni live-action movie, which I also played a little after “Real Onigokko” and was also an exclusive courtesy of Tomodachi (you gotta love that girl). I absolutely love Eiko Shimamiya, hands down and her openings for both Higurashi series are among my favorite songs (waiting to listen to her new one for the third series). The following is the video-clip with footage from the movie.

Have fun,
