Interstella 5555 and Daft Punk, Meet Perfume

This is a little (OK, not really little but anyway) something to keep you busy as I finally work on the missing Cosplay and Visual files (in fact, we will continue where the Time Capsule Files left off). The first is the complete movie of Interstella 5555:  The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. In essence, it’s a visualization, in the form of anime movie, of Daft Punk‘s “Discovery” album. Each track of the album was animated as an episode by Toei Animation, under the supervision of legendary Master Leiji Matsumoto. All the episodes, sewn together as a feature length movie, tell the story of the abduction of an interstellar pop band and their rescue. It’s really an amazing piece of work and in my humble opinion, the best AMV (Anime Music Video) ever produced. Well, the fact that both companies cooperated to do it, one being among the largest animation studios in Japan, might have something to do with it. However, it doesn’t change my point. I will therefore let the video speak for itself.  Many thanks to Black D. for uploading the entire movie on YouTube.

Now, after you have taken the time to watch it (and probably, appreciate the beauty of it), you may want to watch the second, much smaller video, a video-clip of Perfume’s “Computer City”. Darn cute, aren’t they? If you listen carefully, you will notice that their background music is amazingly similar to Daft Punk’s “One More Time”. No, the point here is not to talk conspiracy and how and if it’s music theft, copy, cover or whatever. The point is to listen to some fun music, see some way good animation and ogle at three beautiful girls, keeping in mind the effects of cross-culture.

[Note: Even though this post predates Oni Market #1, I actually decided to add it to that category afterwards, after the whole idea started taking shape in my head. The first Oni Market entry per se, was the one bearing, conspicuously, the same name].
